Derry is a southern New Hampshire town with a village center, older houses along the older roads, and a great many subdivision houses from the late twentieth century. Forced air and oil heat are ordinary. Propane is ordinary. Natural gas is not the default. Liberty Utilities' own community list marks Derry with an asterisk and says the utility has a very small service area in towns marked that way. If a contractor tells you the whole town is on gas, ask them to show the main on your street. Most heating proposals in Derry should start from oil, propane, or a heat pump, not from a gas furnace that assumes a pipe that is not there.
That fuel picture is why heat pump and dual-fuel conversations are more common here than a simple furnace swap to gas. The electrical utility is still whatever is on your bill, often Eversource in this part of the state. Confirm it. NHSaves rebates do not care that the town is Derry. They care about the electric account, the equipment list, and whether you are leaving electric resistance or fossil fuel. The fossil-fuel tier and the electric-resistance tier are different amounts. Read the rebate guide and the official page.
Houses here often have the furnace and the water heater in a garage alcove or a basement that was finished after the equipment went in. Access is the hidden part of the quote. Condensers sit close to decks and property lines. Second-floor rooms over garages are the rooms that overheat and underheat. A replacement that does not mention those rooms is copying the old system's shortcomings.
The Town of Derry permits construction locally. Ask who files the permit and whether an inspection is required for the equipment you are changing. State fuel-gas and plumbing credentials are looked up at OPLC, not at the town website. Steps are in how to vet a contractor.
Call (603) 420-0791 and give the ZIP code below. An independent contractor quotes the visit. Confirm license and insurance. This site is not a Derry HVAC shop and does not list one.
Because gas is scarce here, delivery access for oil and propane trucks matters in a bad winter. If your tank is hard to reach or you have run out before, say that. It may push the design toward a heat pump with backup, or toward a tank relocation that belongs in the quote. Also say if the driveway is steep. A winter no-heat call that the truck cannot reach is a planning problem you can describe in September.
