Concord is the capital, and it is colder than the seacoast for more of the winter. The housing mix is a small downtown of older wood-frame and brick buildings, neighborhoods of capes and colonials, and suburban streets in the outer ZIP codes where oil heat and forced air are both common. State offices do not change the equipment in a 1920 house on a side street. Steam and hot water still heat some of the older stock. Newer houses are more often furnaces. An addition or a finished attic is often the room that never quite heats.
Liberty Utilities lists Concord among the communities it serves with natural gas. The main follows the corridors the utility built. It does not enter every road in 03301 or 03303. Off the main, propane and oil remain ordinary. Do not let a proposal assume a gas conversion you have not confirmed with the utility. Electric delivery should be read off the bill rather than guessed from a statewide map. Several utilities operate in the broader capital area. The bill is the record that matters for an outage call and for an NHSaves rebate.
Basements here are where furnaces and boilers actually live, and many are low. A high-efficiency furnace that needs a new plastic vent and a condensate drain is a different job from dropping a similar cabinet on the old flue. Chimneys in older Concord houses are a frequent reason a like-for-like replacement is not like-for-like. Ask about the water heater that shares the chimney.
The city has its own building and inspection process. Ask the contractor which permit the job needs and whether Concord inspects it. State licensing for fuel gas and plumbing is separate and is verified on the OPLC site. See how to vet a contractor.
Call (603) 420-0791 with the ZIP code below. You will be connected with an independent contractor who quotes the work. This site does not do the job and does not publish a Concord price list.
State-house weather is not milder weather. Concord's valley location means cold nights and a heating season that punishes short-cycling boilers. If you hear the boiler start every few minutes, say so. Short cycling can be sizing, a control, or a water-flow problem. It is worth describing accurately so the visit is not spent only on the burner nozzle. Downtown parking and tight lots also change how a replacement is delivered. Mention stairs and access when you call.
